These are the essential ingredients you need to get yourself up and running:

Hardware:

The Raspberry Pi may be obtained from a variety of sources, usually with a standard Linux operating system on an SD card.

However, all the other items are standard items, which can either be purchased in a package, such as from Maplins and Amazon, or can be bought separately, often cheaply as remaindered items, or on auction sites such as eBay. Or, of course, reused from old systems.

Most modern televisions have an HDMI input and offer a ready-made computer screen.

A modern moble phone charger, with a USB to micro-USB cable will operate as a ready-made power supply.

The only specialist items that are unlikely to be at hand are the case and HDMI cable.

Software

To turn your Raspberry Pi into a Risc Os platform, you will need Risc Os Pi on an SD card

These are available from Risc Os Open Ltd (ROOL) and for £12 you get the latest version of the Risc Os 5 operating system, and a basic set of programs, including a text editor, Draw and Paint programmes and the NetSurf web browser.

You can then purchase Risc Os applications programmes, such as the Organizer 2 personal information manager, Messenger email suite and Techwriter word processor, or download the many freeware and shareware programs available, such as the Risc os version of the FireFox web browser and PrivateEye Jpeg viewer.

Alternatively, you can purchase the Nut Pi SD card, which includes a compilation of all the major commercial Risc Os software, worth separately around £600, all for £42, also from ROOL.

You can also obtain all the items you need, from hardware and software to cables and accessories, from CJE Micros of Worthing. These include cases, feet screws and spacers; holding brackets for ATX/Mini ITX cases, and RPi installed in laptop cases.
