Raspberry Pi NAS File Server

From skiwithpete, a great project for those starting out with their RaspberryPi or those who want some inspiration for a Pi that might be lying around.
Raspbian – The base operating system. Stable. Love it.
Samba – Share your files (compatible with Windows + MacOSX)
Install it: sudo apt-get install samba samba-common-bin
Configure your files and folders here: sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf
NFS – The faster way to share files (Linux)
This is pretty advanced, so I’ll let you figure it out.
OwnCloud – A free alternative to Dropbox (use your HDDs as the cloud)
Dropbox – Backup your data from the cloud
rsync – the awesome way to backup and automate backups
